Great Mell Fell
3.01km
260m ascent
1 hour

We were on the way down the road to do a couple of parental visits over Christmas so we thought we'd break up the journey en route - the Lakes looked ok weather-wise so we hopped off the motorway and headed for a minor road south of Penruddock. We found a spot to park and almost immediately another car parked behind us - a popular spot then

Boots on, we headed off up the track straight away

We followed the track around the hill before branching off steeply uphill

Heading uphill - the gradient a bit easier now, but also slightly squishier underfoot

Back down the worst bit - it wasn't as slippery as I'd thought it would be!

Back at the car the weather was still holding so we figured we may as well pop up Little Mell Fell - but we would make it easier for ourselves and drove around the corner

Little Mell Fell
1.27km
154m ascent
24 mins

The wind had actually picked up and it was tough walking as we left the car - a wee glimpse of Ullswater though 8)

It was a steep climb up but at least it got it done fast

The wind was a bit mental so we made a mad dash back down to the car - it was my turn to drive which went really well until we got a flat tire just south of Preston - fortunately Malky was able to show off his manly skills

It was going to be one of those days
