Interesting walk in rather dismal weather. The first section from Keld, following Wainwright's Coast-to-Coast route to the Swinner Gill Mines and above them onto the high moor, was scenically the best. From there a wide track led easily almost to the summit of Rogan's Seat, but a short diversion from it was needed to reach the cairn.

Back on the track a bearing was taken from it to continue northwards along the summit 'ridge' to the NE outlier with a trig point on it. This was pleasant walking. From the trig point a bearing due north was taken to reach a bridleway traversing the northern slopes from E to W. We located the path but were soon unable to find any trace of it, despite GPS confirmation. We went the rest of the way to the Tan Hill Inn over pathless, heathery moorland; hard going! We called in at Tan Hill for a half, then straightforwardly followed the Pennine Way back to Keld.
