Dodd was the second of four Wainwrights bagged on 13 Feb 2011.
My full day out is recorded in these threads:
I parked in the pay-and-display at Dodd Wood, on the A591, and followed the steep tarmac road up the north side of Skill Beck.
At the top of the beck are a series of forrest tracks, most of which head up onto the Skiddaw massif but a rather helpful sign points you in the right direction...
The summit is marked by a slate post with some commemorative stuff on it. This was a wild and windy place to be yesterday so I didn't hang around for long. After taking a few snaps on the BlackBerry, including my next target of the day, I turned back the way I came and headed back to the car park.
On the descent I used the track on the south side of Skill Beck, which was slightly more enjoyable than the road on the other side as it was gravel and pine needles rather than tarmac.
When I returned to the car park I had lunch at
The Old Sawmill Tearoom where a very nice lady served me a delicious bowl of hot tomato, lentil and basil soup with a crusty brown roll sitting by a wood-burning fire.
After drying-off a little it was back in the car and off to
Latrigg.
