Two of the Yorkshire Three Peaks, starting from Ingleton with a long gradual ascent of Whernside's south ridge. Then a descent by the main Three Peaks path. The usual route up Ingleborough is currently closed for path repairs. A well signposted diversion sends you on a steep grassy slope up the side of Simon Fell. I decide to make a short detour to visit the top of Simon Fell, even though it's not the most exciting summit. Then along the ridge to Ingleborough, where you can visit the various cairns and try to guess which is the highest. The path heading south west from the summit leads straight back to Ingleton.
