Spring Meet: Torridon. April 5th & 6th.

Spring Meet: Torridon. April 5th & 6th.

Postby Gable Gable End » Sun Dec 02, 2012 6:16 pm

The feeler thread happened to unaminously declare that Torridon was the choice destination for a Spring meet. Being a man of the people; the base will be Achnasheen which has a eat, whisky bars and a train station and is do-able in public transport.

Accom:
I have initially booked out the Kinlochewe Bunkhouse which sleeps up to 12 at £13 per night. Please bring own towel and sleeping bag.

Depending on numbers; there is an opportunity to book the bunkhouses at Ledgowan lodge in Achnasheen (10 miles) and Torridon SYH (which has another 10 beds or so; although haven't had the best reports on the Ledgowan bunkhouse. There are also a few camping alternatives nearby at Kinlochewe Caravan Club Campsite (which opens on 5th April!) http://www.caravanclub.co.uk/caravanclu ... _Club_Site and a selection of B&Bs.

The note from the the owners of the bunkhouse....."The Kinlochewe Hotel is a small family run business with adjacent bunkhouse set in the heart of the Torridon mountains at the foot of Beinn Eighe with Slioch, Liathach and Beinn Alligin all close by. Andrew and I took over the hotel in 2006 and have set about making it a cosy and welcoming place to stay. We have a great selection of books and a very comfortable lounge in which our guests can relax in the evening - or of course there are plenty of walks within the area to suit all abilities.

We have developed quite a reputation for our home cooked food using high quality local ingredients and we always have at least one vegetarian option available. Evening meals are available at around £10.00 - £18.00 for a main course. Booking is strongly recommended as we do get very busy. We also have a great selection of malt whiskies and real ales in the bar.
You can visit our website at www.kinlochewehotel.co.uk for more information."

Logistics:

Reply here to secure bunkhouse places (first come first served). If demand exceeds 12; we can make arrangements to book Ledgowan.

YYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Guess what I'll be asking for at work tomorrow. Time off :D :D :D :D

I'll be there, and I have even got a couple of red flags in the area to sort out.

I will probably base myself at home (the one where the heart is) as, allegedly, I snore and might not be too popular in a bunk house. It is only about 45 minutes away so will be able to join in the fun.

Only 126 sleeps to go. :D :D :D :D

I don't think the selection in the area is particularly fantastic but lets be honest; we are a bunch of reprobates anyway!

Glad it has moved from March as Im on holiday during the first two weeks in April, so I'm in. I will be staying in the camp site from about the Wednesday of that week but will hang about for at least part of that weekend. :D

Well done for getting this sorted so quickly, looking forward to meeting you after missing first two meetups since i joined the site
