Thoughts on organising future WH meets...

The way it is done at some clubs is through a " meets co-ordinator " who,s job is to pre book the venues for the clubs future meets. This is done almost a year in advance, so as to book the venues at the time wanted. The WH meets are very well attended and i think getting venues to accommodate such numbers will become harder. I think you should appoint a person or team who would book your meets well in advance, making the winners of the quiz as organisers undermines the quiz itself, im sure lots of people throw the quiz solely not to be the organiser

Never having won the quiz ourselves , we were voted in by previous organisers lol . As we are not a "committee " style club, a convener seems an unlikely route for what is, afterall, a relatively informal meet up of like minded folks. Next people will expect tombola prizes (watch this space folks  )

I haven't ever been to a meet yet (hopefully next time, at last!) but for the record, if I ever do come along, I don't ever want to organise anything, haha! I'm not a leader... I prefer to bumble along. Always happy to assist, of course (glamorous assistant? In my walking gear, haha).

I think it varies

We won the quiz in Kinlochleven and the honour of organising the next one, which Graeme's team won. As he'd previously organised a meet, he chose the next host (i think)

We have one or two in mind and that are interested in organizing the next one, so maybe myself and Gill should pick who organizes he next meeting.
Then future meets use the same format.

But we were talking about where future meets could be held.
So suggestions for future ones from me - The Lakes, Wales and The kerry Mountains :D

That's the areas that get my vote

There's been a few murmurings about a meet in the lakes over the years........I know I seriously considered it

It'd make a nice change (and it'd let me get some Furths)

Plus......just look at my paltry Wainwright count!!! pathetic!! pah!!!

Think we had six new walkers at Torridon and after speaking to them the munros were the main reasons they came and the chance to walk with some more experienced walkers. The same reasons why I starting on WH meets.

If those six had not of came there's a chance that some meets might not make the target to cover cost of accommodation and leave organisers at a loss.

To move it away from the munros might discourage the present baggers and put off new people joining in the meets.

After all it is Walk Highlands.
