West Highland Way from 3 October

Hi!

I'm planning to walk the West Highland Way from the 3 October and I was wondering whether anyone else was doing it at around the same time?

I've not quite decided how long to take yet. I started off with the bold ambition of 5 days and I've gradually watered that down to perhaps 6 or 7 days. My intention is to camp along the route and I'll be carrying my tent with me.

I'm not really an experienced hiker or camper as I've only really bought the equipment recently. Last weekend - as a practice - I did part of the South Downs way (not that it compares). I have a tendency to wing it so perhaps the wisdom of an experienced hand would be ideal. However, I welcome other less experienced companions because part of the fun will be exploring and of course drinking together!

A little about me: I actually grew up in East Dunbartonshire and my parents now live in the neighbouring suburb to Milngavie called Bearsden. I've lived and worked in London for the last 5 years though but I'm reaching the point where I'm getting a bit fed up of city life and want to explore the great outdoors. I never really made the most of Scotland when I lived there and now want to make up for it. I'm also really into cycling - hence why I look so dishevelled in the photo below which was after a particularly intense ride!

Good luck. You should meet plenty people on the route although most start on a Saturday apparently. It will be getting colder and the days are getting shorter ( in case you have forgotten after 5 years down south).
At least you will miss the camping ban and the midges!
