In Borders from Friday 18th September to Tuesday 22nd.
I am an experienced hillwalker, live in the West Country in England and have been a regular visitor to Scotland for 30 years. Never however walked anywhere in the Borders so this is a first from me.

Prepare for wide open spaces, empty glens and great rounded whalebacks of hills. For smaller, greener, friendlier hills go to Melrose and hike around the three hills of the Eildons, known by the Romans as Trimontium. Shame you don`t have much time, you could have read up on the history of the area by reading George MacDonald Fraser`s excellent book, "The Steel Bonnets". Beware the Hermitage lads, beware the Hermitage ! Further west, Glen Trool is nice, with hikes up in the Galloway Hills to the Merrick.

I did the Culter Fell circuit last week. Just outside Biggar. Highly recommended
