Does a GPS tracklog need a phone signal to show?

Does a GPS tracklog need a phone signal to show?

I only ever use a Garmin for nav backup but am writing about phones.
I know they can show your location with GPS when there is no signal – of use with pre-downloaded maps.

But will an imported tracklog (called 'GPX route file' on walking highlands - continuous line) also show up in a mapping app without mobile signal?

Searched but could not find.

Thanks

If you have downloaded the file to your phone via Wi-Fi or phone data, you don't need a phone signal for the app to work. I use my phone in airplane mode when out in the hills and the GPS records my every step.
Hope this answers your question if I read it correctly.
