WH coming and going

WH coming and going

Postby nigheandonn » Fri Jun 24, 2022 12:46 pm

Is anyone else still getting WH coming and going (mostly timing out), and sometimes more gone than come?

I can't see why it would just be me (it happens everywhere, so it's not being blocked on one network) - but I thought there would be more moaning if it was everyone!

No problem for me (Chrome on Windows mostly).

I'm not aware of any downtime at all. Currently rewriting all the area pages with the highlighty maps to newer code, so there's a chance you would miss one if I was uploading at that moment. But that seems pretty unlikely.

Let me know if you find any possible reasons - sounds strange if it happens on different networks.

Also unavailable for me for a few hours earlier today. DNS weirdness, maybe?

That's the only thing I can think of. Wonder if you both use the same internet service provider's DNS?

Not that we've changed any DNS in years.

If it happens again, can you possibly email me your ip address? You can find it by adding Google “my ip address” - it’s for numbers separated by dots.

Email: editor@walkhiglands.co.uk

You probably need to make a note as you won’t be able to read this if you can’t access 😊

I can then check that out security isn’t triggering no reason.

Cheers

This problem is happening more and more lately, I'm afraid. I tried to e-mail you my ip address, as suggested, but for some reason the e-mail wouldn't send :(

Can you explain what you mean by 'wouldn't send'? Did it bounce back to you with a message?

I get 50-100 emails every day, excluding the spam, so that sounds very odd; I've never had anyone say they couldn't email me.

We've still not had any server downtime -it's been up continuously without any reboot for a couple of years, and I'm on the site for alot of the time and never seen it down - so I'm guessing there must be something more specific with your connections. There's a strong possibly you are tripping our firewall which would lock you out for a couple of hours or more, or it's your ISP's DNS server.

If you can't email me you could perhaps message me your IP address so I can check whether the firewall cut you off and why? Then I would be able to see what you were doing that temporarily banned you and tweak the firewall rules to stop it happening.
