Sideways Photos

Postby attackhedgehog » Wed Aug 21, 2019 7:45 pm

I've been trying to write my first walk report, but all of my photos are sideways. I've been trying to upload them directly from my computer. I tried turning the photo on my computer and reuploading, but it did not fix the problem. Thank you for your help!

I've some experience of this on a different site where I wrote the photo upload code. This may be something Paul could sort as I found that some cameras (in particular iPhones) did not embed the correct orientation details in the file.

exiftool -Orientation= /target/dir/or/File

You can then use any photo viewer to rotate.

As an extra to this, I've removed the size limits on uploading photos. Hopefully Walkhighlands server can cope with resizing all the pics itself as they are uploaded. If anyone has any problems uploading let me know.

Doesn't seem to be working normally for me, Paul - I get this error message and a distorted screen when trying to upload (already resized) photos:

[phpBB Debug] PHP Warning: in file /includes/functions_upload.php on line 283: imagejpeg() expects parameter 1 to be resource, null given

Sorry, may now be fixed. Could you try again - and if you still get the error, email the pic to me editor@walkhighlands.co.uk

and this message for the photo

When you say a route, do you mean a gpx file? If so, try again and let me know whether fixed.

If you've a problem uploading an image, please email it to me at editor@walkhighlands.co.uk so I can take a look.

Many thanks for your help.

Hi JFT

I hear you, but can you email the files you are trying to upload to me?
Other people are writing new reports with gpx and photos, so there may be something specific to your files that I could look into.
