Many Rivers to Cross

Does anyone carry a pair of beach/pool shoes with them in case you need to get the boots off and wade across a river ? If so what do you have ?

If I know I have a river crossing, I take my Feetz Over wellies. Go on over your boots so don't have to take everything off.

Fold flat into a small pack.

The Feetz festival wellies are good as they go over your boots, but are around the same height as your gaiters and may not be high enough if the river(s) are a bit swollen.

A pair of aqua shoes also a good shout (probably my choice), they can take a while to dry to dry though. Leaving you with either cheap Croc copies or neoprene/waterproof socks. 8)

Pole-vaulting can be an option. So can rearranging any nearby tree-trunks to form a bridge. Rolling rocks to form a series of stepping-stones, clinging to wading animals/other hikers, throwing a tantrum until someone else builds a bridge for you, or walking miles out of your way until the stream is small enough to jump across. My original plan of clinging to floating debris until washed up somewhere convenient does not seem to have caught on, not since the Newfoundland Incident...
Or you could just wade in your bare feet, with a stick for support.

I favour taking cheap walking sandals for crossings, and a wee towel for dryings. Current pair are Sports Direct (boo!) specials that cost about a tenner.

If I knew I was getting wet I might get an actual towel, but I usually have a j-cloth for, variously, wiping condensation / rain off the tent, drying cooking gear and, when necessary, drying my feet off after a river crossing. It also once tied knots into the corners and used it as a sun hat. Weighs nothing, soaks up plenty of water, wrings out easily and offers SPF50 UV protection.

Rubble bags. Weigh next to nothing, and can cope with water up to one's knees.

I have sometimes taken crocs, sometimes old trainers, plus a towel. That was on walks where the streams to cross were at the bottom of the mountain - you cross, then you put on your walking boots and leave the other things behind while you head up hill.

This.

Simple to do, weigh not a lot, cost for free.
