What experience do WH contributors have with this fabric, single, double and hybrid, as used in the manufacture of a walking jacket?
Appreciate any feedback. Regards Richard

Away back in the early sixties I had an Arctic guinea tent that had the Ventile cloth...within a year I bought a cotton flysheet to enable a more comfortable camp.
A heavy combination that needed the load to be shared.
Around that time I am fairly sure that there were folks around in the hills who wore Ventile jackets.

Back in the late 60s and early 70s I had a ventile anorack, single if I remember. It was robust, windproof and as I recall was surprisingly waterproof.

Thanks for your all feedbacks.
Maybe not such a popular fabric in these days of high tech garments. Need to give it more thought.
Regards.

I can't say I've ever seen ventile jackets in the wild. I think they're out of favour due to being heavy, and probably harder to re-proof than either waxed cotton or membranes.

I've had a double Ventile Jacket for 35 years plus. Mine was from Hllltrek in Aboyne. I had it refurbished at 35 years, just the cuffs and the edge of flap over the zip, and the pocket flaps, all wear points and reasonable after that time.
I wash it and reproof once a year with Nikwax TEch Wash and TxDirect.

I have several other jackets of course, but wear this one most often for mixed outdoor stuff.

If you have shed loads of money PHDesigns do Ventile/Down jackets.

There's an organic ventile jacket advertised in this quarter's edition of scottish mountaineer, this lot below, they seem to do a reasonable number of garments.
