Windproof jacket suggestions.

Windproof jacket suggestions.

Postby matt_outandabout » Fri Jan 01, 2021 5:51 pm

My cheapy Tog24 is on its last legs. I want to replace it with a wind proof only, lightweight top.

Used for general hillwalking and cycling, both MTB and road.

Needs:
Chest hand pockets above waistbelt.
Hood.
Longer in length.
Pit zips would be nice.
Prefer some reflective bits and a bright colour.

I'm thinking the only option is a Montane Litespeed?

Paramo bentu might fit the bill, although it's not very reflective or bright.

Unfortunately they've discontinued the fuera ascent which is what I use. It doesn't seem to be a very crowded market, unfortunately.

Sportsshoes.com are/were selling the Montane Dyno Stretch for 60 quid. I got one last year and it was ideal for 3-season use.

I used to have a Dyno - great jackets, but not fully windproof.

Fuera Ascent was going to be my suggestion. I was only ever so-so with mine until I used it biking. Perfect use for it. The smock version is still available but I don't think it's as versatile as the jacket.
The Bentu and Ostro are definitely worth a look.

I have two, my Decathlon windproof (£14.99 when I bought it) which I use when running off-road and My Rab Latok when I'm hiking. Both are very good but the Rab is better with perspiration. As far as I'm concerned my Rab is the most important item of clothing for hiking.
