Older summer boots with GTX XCR were less warm?

Older summer boots with GTX XCR were less warm?

Postby simon-b » Mon May 10, 2021 9:52 am

That's my observation anyway. Recent chats on the forum about footwear mention how Goretex lined boots cause warm feet in summer. I found my older summer boots like Scarpa ZG65 and Baltoro, with GTX XCR lining, did seem to keep my feet cooler than than my current Peak GTX. Does anyone no why GTX XCR boots appear to have been discontinued? Did Goretex stop making XCR? I know they started using Goretex Pro for their top of the range clothes, but don't seem to use a more breathable version for summer boots anymore.

I believe that Gore have had one of their periodic re-brandings.
The XCR brand for clothing was retired in about 2008 and replaced with Gore-tex pro-shell, with XCR kept on for footwear.
Your footwear choices now appear to be
Goretex
Goretex surround
Goretex invisible fit

Cheers Dave.
I've just looked at Scarpa's site and they still do one shoe, the Vortex XCR, but no boots with XCR. I guess Scarpa have their reasons.
