I often wonder what anyone who lives in western Scotland does to keep the midges at bay.

It must be great having a place on the coast or next to a loch with great views but are you able to sit out between June and September?

All it needs is a bit of a breeze and sitting outside is fine or very hot and dry works too but that tends to be a bit rare.
It just comes down to picking the right day to sit outside.

Getting out on a loch in a boat gets away from the midges and I have a theory that Crannogs were built to avoid the midges in times past.

Otherwise it's Smidge and protective clothing if being outside can't be avoided.
