Replacement Hood Peak Wire

Replacement Hood Peak Wire

Postby FraserHughes » Fri Apr 22, 2022 9:46 am

The wire that stiffens the peak on my Rab windproof has snapped.

The rest of the jacket is in decent nick (its only 15 years only, and has a mere 3 holes  ) so I'd like to repair it.

Has anyone replaced the wire and if so what did you use? I'm struggle to find anything strong enough but flexible enough.

Thanks in advance.

I had a jacket without a wired peak and used copper wire 1.5mm thick. The sort that is used for jewellery. I just bent back the ends and blunted them. Works fine.

Or perhaps strip out one of the cores in a length of twin core and earth electricity cable. Can be bought from a diy store. Varying diameters depending on how stiff you want it, e.g. 1mm, 1.5mm, 2.5mm etc.
