Need a bit of help. Recently bought garmin etrex 32x but how do I actually access maps for hiking routes? Are these already in the device or do i need to download them? Any advice would be much appreciated!

Did your Garmin come with mapping?

If not you need to buy mapping

The individual walk reports on this site have GPX routes you can download and then store on your device.

You can get free UK and ROI maps from talky toaster for your etrex or, for a small fee, he will post out an sd card with the maps installed.
Once you have the maps you can download the gpx files for the routes/trails you want to your pc. You will need garmin basecamp on your pc.
Plug your etrex in with the USB and open basecamp. It will show the file tree and you import the gpx to basecamp and then can move it to the etrex.
Then it is a case of opening the route/trail when you need it.
