Hello everyone,
Looking for advice here. I dug out an old tent which I hadn't used in 15 years. I pitched it in the garden and immediately noticed how sticky the fabric of the flysheet felt. I decided it needed a proper wash, so I stuck it in the washing machine, normal cycle 40 degrees, with Tech Nik Wax.
The photos show the result. It looks like the seam seals, if that's what you call them, have peeled off, and are sticking to the inside of the flysheet. Not only that, but the machine wash has done nothing to remove that horrible stickiness.
So, advice would be greatly appreciated. Is the tent fit for the bin? Is it worth waiting for the tent to dry, then attempting to use seam sealant? As for the stickiness - what the hell is it? Could it be some sort of residue that's built up while the tent has not been in use for the last 15 years?
I really don't want to throw it out. It's a good 2-man tent, although probably quite heavy by today's standards.
Grateful for any replies.
