Not a good look for the hill!!
Salopettes are definitely waterproof, and windproof and very comfortable. Only ever used them for skiing so depends how hot you get when hill walking, even in cold weather - as I do. Having said that skiing in sunny conditions can cause you to heat up, and I've never felt sweaty wearing skiing gear - obviously bought stuff that's very breathable. Trekwear have a good reasonable priced range and Winwood Outdoor have a huge range. Including some with removable braces. The cheaper option would be to buy cross over braces for your usual w/p's.

Keela Alpine Advance trousers with braces do it for me. They're warm enough without thermals and are excellent in the wet and snow. Got built in gaitors too.

Rab latok salopetes are very good! Full length side zips, braces, crampon patches &gaiters.

Craigdon mountain sports have them for £120 instead of the normal £220+

It's not something I normally wear, but the Keela Munro Salopettes have a good pedigree and they're available from Amazon for under £90 if you're a size XS or S.

I hate wearing waterproof trousers - only put them on in the worst of weather
I'm also a bit of a cheapskate - I have standard overtrousers with waist drawcord
But have attached clip on braces which does stop that drooping problem
OK not the height of hill fashion 8) - but who's judging

I don't like wearing overtrousers but I find my salopetes really comfy, never any problems with sweat/over heating plus they're really stretchy so I hardly notice them when I'm moving.

Probably no-one around here uses 'buffalo DP system' salopettes nowadays :D But for warmth even when completely soaked along with buffalo top maybe second to none. :) Been glad of these on miserable days out on the hills. They are tucked away in the cupboard and haven't seen much of the daylight in recent times. :D

Having now enjoyed the cosiness of Buffalo mitts, i cannot imagin how awesome a full outfit of the stuff would be!

Here's me thinking that you were wearing the kit in your mugshot image  ...It's the iconic blue colour that led me to think this. Yes very cosy items these....not fashionable nowadays....too baggy perhaps for most modern hill folks?
I recall the benefits of the top during a cold/windy traverse of the Monte Rosa group using 'buffalo'. :)
