Another camera question.

Another camera question.

Postby Meatball » Sat Dec 29, 2012 6:23 pm

Ok, I'm an idiot, what I'm looking for is something that is point and shoot and idiot proof.

I've seen good reports for
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B006 ... d_i=468294
But I'm not sure if that is overkill...

Would this be better
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-DMC-T ... =de_a_smtd
Decent spec, lighter, simpler and less bulky...

Thanks in advance.

Just seen this thread. I dont think the links are working.

I replied to your question in my thread, but will post here too. I'd recommend for a Point and Shoot something in the Lumix range. This camera is highly recommended by a friend and I had nearly bought it before she did.

Hi Meatball
Both of these cameras will provide you with excellent results, it all depends what your looking for in a camera.
All cameras can point and shoot if that is all you require, I have a dslr that has an auto mode but also carry a cheap compact which I find easier to carry when out and about. The fujifilm camera is three times as heavy as the olympus and you could get a decent camera for a bit less.

I reported a problem with links in the Help forum earlier, might be useful adding to that thread.

The links above aren't working for me either.

If you're looking for a camera able to stand the Scottish weather and very easy to use I'd also give this a look.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pentax-Optio-WG ... 653&sr=1-5

I've used it on 6 hill walks so far with no problems. Because it's just about everything proof, I've been hanging in from my pack's shoulder strap by a carabiner - which it comes with - and it's been great. However do purchase a spare battery as intense cold will drain your power if the camera is exposed to too much wind chill. And it takes pretty decent shots too.

good point from Scottishscript!

We all want a camera that will take a good photo, maybe even a great one! but the point about the Scottish weather is a valid one! one point to consider , and I have not seen it in any spec for a camera ( yet! ) is the temperature range it will operate in! Quite annoying to find out when you are halfway up a hill that your camera will not operate ( that's funny it was working at the car park! ) So maybe small is the answer , where it can be kept in an inside pocket or an insulated camera pouch at a reasonable temperature

Sadly I plumped for the Panasonic....the Nikon range hadn't even been looked at, hey ho, too late now.
Re temp range, yeah, I'm away of that with my camera and GPS....so they get shuffled about depending on the weather...left exposed in good weather, moved in contact with the body in the cold.
