Cleaning synthetic sleeping bag - advice please

Cleaning synthetic sleeping bag - advice please

Postby GariochTom » Mon Jul 22, 2013 12:51 pm

My 4-season synthetic sleeping bag is in desperate need of a wash.

The Mountain Hardwear web site advises that for synthetic bags, you should use a mild powder soap or special synthetic cleaning product.

I'd be grateful for any advice on whether it would be fine to use the Nikwax 'Tech Wash' for machine washing the sleeping bag. The 'Tech Wash' is apparently a soap based cleaner for clothing, tents, etc.

Thanks very much

Nikwax 'Tech Wash' is good for the job, I've also used Ecover Delicate on synthetic bags.

DO NOT MACHINE WASH!

Hand wash in the bath or other large tub and be careful how you handle the wet bag as the stitching can be easily damaged by the excess weight.

Thanks very much for the advice. I have both Tech Wash and Ecover Delicate; do you think one is better than the other for the job?

I'll wash it in the bath rather than in the washing machine then!

Thanks again.

If it's a cheapo bag I'd use the Ecover.
If it's an expensive bag the Techwash.
