Boots too old and too heavy?

Boots too old and too heavy?

Postby Jimmyabcz » Sun Jun 25, 2017 6:34 pm

Hello all,

New to the forum and this is my first post.

Looking to get back into hillwalking this summer after a many year absence and need some advice on my old boots... I've got an old pair of Karrimor KSB300 GTX boots, 14 years old by this point but still in nice condition. I used them last week for the first time in years on a wee hillwalk and was surprised by how heavy they are! They come in at 1.8kg for the pair (size10).

My question is, should I just get used to them again or is this overly heavy for a pair of boots by current standards?

Many thanks!

About the same weight as a scarpa SL so not too bad. In comparison I have some modern lighter scarpas which come in at 1.4kg and my ice climbing boots which are a hefty 2.2kg (I tend to try and forget just how heavy they are!)
