Boots and Blisters

Boots and Blisters

Postby Munchie » Wed Jun 28, 2017 8:30 pm

Hi folks,

This is probably already discussed many times before but I have had years of different makes of boots (normally always leather) and different makes of socks and I continually get blisters on my heels. My current boots are new (ish) and broke my heels to shreds on a recent long walk. I have read so many things on this and one piece of advice recently was use duck tape?! I can see why it may work but my heels need to heal first!

My question is, what are your recommendations for wide-fitting boots and also is there a kind of boot specialist I could visit to figure out what the hell is going on with my gorilla feet and which type are best for my feet?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers,

M.

Can't help you a lot, but basically you need to stop that heel moving inside the boot, presumably its lifting as you step. Insoles, lacing patterns and different socks can all help.

Have a look at this thread

Having similar issues, I use 2 socks, liner and walking sock or 1000mile running socks & lacing top of the boot back to the ankle joint to lock the heel

is the technique I use for approach shoes/trainer (first 1)

Got another blister today hillwalking this time, figure it must be the small hole in the insole. I always lace boots at the top and finish off at the second row. Will replace the insoles and if I still get a blister , could be the boots are knackered, and moving slightly. Can always use them for fishing

In case you're still experiencing this issue, Engo patches solved it for me, they're a low friction surfaced plaster that you stick to the location which is rubbing against your feet. You can get them on Amazon. So far i've used them for several munros and haven't had blisters since!

The most important thing is to go into a shop with the socks you'll be wearing and try several pairs of boots. Good shops will spend a bit of time with you and let you walk around the store in them (including up and down ramps etc.).
It's also worth going back to the shop with your boots if you have problems - Cotswold will help you to adjust them with volume adjusters, heel lifts and tongue depressors - they'll give you these free if you bought your boots from Cotswold (other stores may also do this),
