GPS advice

Postby hillcat » Thu Aug 10, 2017 8:57 am

Hi folks. I've never owned a GPS and am not very technically minded. However, I've decided to ask Santa for a GPS device for Christmas. Any advice on what would be a reliable device for a first timer which won't bankrupt Santa? Cheers!

Viewranger for your smartphone :)

As for actual stand alone GPS units, this depends on what you want :-
Just NGR coordinates/Map display
Touch screen/Buttons/large hard to mess up in gloves buttons
etc

Never seen the point in a dedicated GPS unit with Viewranger on my phone now, outwith winter anyway.

For winter I use a basic Garmin Etrex 10, so I can get a grid reference should I need it.

The Garmin Etrex 20 or 30 won't break the bank and both have mapping.
