Curious about this also - working/living in the US at the moment but returning to Scotland for a few weeks in Sept and not planning to take up valuable luggage space with boots - in the attic in my UK home, I have some Scarpa Manta pros which I refuse to wear outside of winter, and some Merrell walking shoes, but am just looking for something that can do 3-season hillwalking and scrambling up to grade 3.
So far, top contenders are Salomon X Alp MTN Goretex which appear to straddle that fine line between walking boot and climbing boot, or the La Sportiva Trango TRK GTX which appear to be fairly lightweight, with some edging capabilities. I love my Nepal Cube GTX in alpine conditions, so I guess I have La Sportiva feet rather than Scarpa feet - I think it makes sense to stick with brands that you know work for you (although I'm aware that the lasts vary even within the same brand).
