Crampons for Brasher Country Masters?

Crampons for Brasher Country Masters?

Postby Heilanladdie » Wed Sep 05, 2018 12:56 pm

Hi Folks

I don't suppose any of you know of a set of crampons that fit well onto a set of Brasher Country Masters size 11/12 or am I looking at buying another set of crampon graded boots, I really don't want to, I love my masters!

Thanks

Bri

I don't think that those boots were marketed as being crampon compatible, so you're probably looking at getting a new pair.

Having said that, If you try a moderately flexible C1 crampon like the Grivel Monte Rosa or G10, then you might (just) get away with it. Take your boots into a gear shop and try, but if the boots are too flexible and they don't fit securely, then don't risk it.

They're definitely not Crampon Graded by Brasher at least, they are pretty stiff though. I might take them into Go Outdoors and see, they are pretty wide though so i am probably looking at new boots. And on that note any advice on boots up to the £150 mark

My Brashers will take instep crampons and Kahtoola microspikes which extend your winter walking a little, but not safe for the steep stuff

The Kahtoola KTS crampons will work, they're designed for bendy boots, I've used with trail shoes.

Useful link!
Don't buy aluminium crampons like the Petzl Leopards for use in Scotland - you will trash them very quickly on rocky ground.

Like the look of those Kahtoolas and the Black Diamonds in the other link, think I will stick with the Brashers and get 1 of these too, just venturing out in the Winter, so cant see me doing anything too steep this season. Fair outlay to replace a perfectly warm and dry comfy boot when already buying Crampons and Axe. So in January/Feb if you see some maniac on the slopes of An Caber/Ben Wyvis trying to learn how to arrest its probably me

Cheers!
