Gift suggestions to top a Jetboil Zip Stove....

Postby Rhomac » Thu Nov 22, 2018 5:00 pm

Just wondering if anyone has any walking gear related gift suggestions - the best gift I ever bought my partner was the Jetboil Zip stove and I fear it may be impossible to buy a more loved and used present. Our level of walking tends to be just day trips so no lightweight camping gear would be required. Any ideas gratefully received.

I can only say what makes me feel positive but maybe inspire some ideas.

I really use poles and wouldn't think to ever go without them. Getting a good pair was great surprise for me as l tend to buy cheap ones for myself.

Hydration bladder or water filter bottle.

Thermos. Gloves. Hat. Other "normal" gear.

Multi tool.

Now I'm just covering my Christmas list 😁

An emergency solid fuel stove or a small folding wood stove, that would fit in your pocket and would make you a brew if you run out of gas for some reason.

That's what Mrs Nachie is getting for her Winter Solstice gift. I made the mistake of letting her try mine on. Now I fear I'll never get to wear it myself again unless I get her one.

Alternatively for the warmer months, a Rab Alpha Direct jacket.

Head torch for when the late nights catch you out?

A lightweight vacuum flask to reward yourselves when you reach the summit?

Or a whiskey flask for the same?

An ortlieb map case, and new silva compass to get you to the right summit?

or a garmin vivoactive 3 to record and map the walks you've taken?

I know it isn't gear, but it is a gift. Why not give him a copy of "The Last Hillwalker" by J.D. Burns. Husband laughed on and off all the way through when he wasn't reading aloud bits where things very nearly went out of control WRONG. I hoped to read it for myself, but he has turned around and is reading it all over again. Last Xmas' top present and shortlisted for TGO Book of the Year

Decathlon have lots of interesting toys for all enthusiasts of the Great Outthere; snowshoes might only get sporadic use, some years not at all. But they are cool...

Not too sure about them new fangled devices? How about a hip flask for your whisky?

If you are not sure you'll get the use out of them, a friend got some ex army ones on ebay where they are currently selling for £9.99....bit of a skinflint price for a significant other but a stocking (over)filler?.. There are special Arctic ones fro £29-99 that look much the same to me. She said they speeded up crossing of snowfields by a significant factor.

Paramo Cascada trousers - wonderful, except in the warmest weather.

And if we get really warm weather, then an insulated water bottle is great as a stocking filler like the www.swellbottle.com (wilko do much cheaper ones too).
