Best Male Underwear?

Best Male Underwear?

Postby Behold Scotland » Tue Jul 30, 2019 7:58 pm

Hi all,

A little bit of a personal subject and I'm sure it'll raise some great answers. As my trusty thin cycling shorts have finally given up the ghost, after years of hard wearing, I am on the lookout for a replacement pair.

What I found towards the end was that they were fine for hillwalking but on long trails they caused some, well, lets just say chaffing :?

Does anyone have any recommendations for good, all round, hillwalking / hiking under-crackers?

Underarmour boxers, long enough to stop skin in skin contact when walking

I'm not surprised cycling shorts contributed to chaffing, from my experience they tend to have some padding - welcome on a cycle but not the best for walking.

100% Merino wool boxers are available for just over £20, I've been meaning to get a pair.

I've got Adidas & Puma sport boxers and they're both fine. I've noticed a new make recently called Saxx. Their boxers are getting good reviews at the moment, I quite fancy a pair myself.

Merino wool boxers are probably the most comfortable & great for multi day hikes, however I've found in my experience they don't last very long, so not worth the price tag.

RBX ones I got from Tk max for about £9 for 3 are great. They are sports boxers, just like cycling/ under armour shorts but feel more like cotton but I’m guessing not cotton.

Perfect for walking.

Been roughly looking around myself as I need a couple of new pairs, I'm a long distance/multi day hiker rather than "a 20 mins up a hill and home for tea and medals" chap  :D so I need comfort, smell resistant, lightweight, quick drying etc

ATM I prefer my ExOfficio give & go boxers, they are ideal and I might just get a couple more pairs, but these days there's a lot more choice about.

I also have two pairs of paramo (cambia I think they're called) one short leg and one longer, they were great for a start but i think the elastic has gone in both pairs, they seem fine, but when on with breeks and walking they start working there way down and quickly become very uncomfortable, not to impressed as they havent had a lot of use tbh, so I need to replace them both.

I like Merino tops and socks, but there's not a chance I'm having warm itchy wool round my nether regions  plus it's not the best for drying and quite delicate for wild washing.

another for exofficio boxers briefs, and the paramo, and the merino, basically anything that isn't cotton, preferably hipsters, currently favouring some nordic boxers I bought online

Runderwear make some excellent underwear. It is (unsurprisingly) designed for runners, so should work well for hiking too.

I use Icebreaker boxers which I managed to pick up for half price. Too expensive at full price!!
They have lasted well and been really comfortable. Tried Alpkit ones but they didn’t last 200 miles.
Also carry a tube of Sudocrem for chafing etc

Modal blend stuff from M&S is good. It's a bamboo based fibre that's soft, light, wicking and good for the environment.
I also like separatec, which uses a similar fabric but has a "pouch" to stop skin to skin contact.
