Manta Pro GTX - prices

Manta Pro GTX - prices

Postby maremalin » Fri Jan 03, 2020 12:12 pm

Happy New Year everyone!

I've been on a lookout for B2 boots for a while. Managed to get Mammut Magic High GTX at under £150. They fit me all right but i'm not 100% convinced i should keep them after trying on Manta boots the other day
Manta fits and feels good - however price tag puts me off.
Has anyone ever managed to get Manta boots under £200?

Yes, but I got mine for £85 in a sale in a shop in Basel, Switzerland! So not much use.

Go with what fits you best, saving a few ££ is false economy and will likely result in sore feet!

It's possibly worth checking Gumtree, eBay, the Facebook Outdoor Gear Exchange etc as you might pick up a pair of barely worn Mantas. Folks often don't realise they've bought the wrong size until after wearing them outside by which point it's too late to return them to the shop. You also get a fair few folks that try winter waking or climbing once and don't like it so sell the boots.

Do you need b2 boots? I can’t think of any occasion outside of winter climbing I’d ever bother with them Munro bagging.

I might consider "barely worn" option..
Price you paid in Switzerland is amazing - i have not seen those boots lower then £280 here

I do need B2s :-)
I do have and use other boots and feel need for stiff sole and better crampon fit.
It is a conscious decision.

I was lucky, last pair in the Bachlii outlet shop. No box and the size written in tiny silver pen on the soles but brand new.

I'm lucky pretty much anything in Scarpa size 5 (boots, approach shoes, running shoes) fits me so I can buy boots etc online without trying them on.

What size are you looking for? I’ve a pair of triolet(same thing but the European name) in an 8 that are unused sitting under the bed.
Be warned though, I’m convinced scarpa have slightly changed their styling and they are neater than my other similar boots from them.

I got mine for £150 on ebay just after they came out, a guy wore them on the Ben once and didn't get on with them. I think you get a lot of this with stiffer B1/2/3 boots so bargains will be available second hand.

Scour the Internet and then get Go Outdoors to do a price match. I got a ME Lhotse jacket for £198 the other day when they were selling it for £333 (Tiso for £370). Saying that, I did struggle to find Mantas at a lower price last year when I was buying boots so went with the Garmont Pinnacles. I haven't actually encountered much snow with them yet so can't really vouch for their performance in proper winter conditions.

I can only echo the many of the other comments on here. I got mine on ebay last May for £140 with only a few marks on the soles. If you are sure of your size and prepared to wait some will come up!
