Down Quilt Problem

Down Quilt Problem

Postby Essan » Sun Jan 26, 2020 11:44 am

Just wondered if anyone else has had this problem?

I have a Alpkit cloud base down quilt. It was last used in September and has been stored loose in a cupboard. I didn't notice this when I put it away, but on going through my gear this morning I discovered that all the down has "disappeared" from the middle of the quilt - it's all bunched up at the top and bottom. Presumably from compression and movement when I was using it. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to move the down back into the middle section of the quilt? Or is it a fault that warrants a return to Alpkit?

Cloud cover, not cloud base ;)

And I think I may have solved the problem anyway - just needs a really, really, really good shake!

Hum! Looks like the baffles are non existent or have failed.
Never used one or seen one though! But should be similar to most "down" products.
Which way do the "pockets " face ( for a better word? Across or down
Contact Alpkit they are very accomodating.

Stick it in the tumble dryer at low heat with a couple of tennis balls!

Just seen this as been away for a few months and internet connections been lousy.
Theres no problem here.
This basic quilt has continuous baffles.
You can shake all the down to the top or base or where ever you want it.
Thats the beauty of this quilt.
Most higher spec' quilts have independent baffles where the down stays in one area, so insulation is equal over the whole area.

Thanks - that's exactly the problem. Have managed to get some of it back into the middle now :) Just needs quite a bit of work to do it!
