This was our first time in Scotland, and after this experience we can say, not the last time.
We started the walk in Fort William. The first part is a little bit flat, but still very nice. At Neptune's staircase the walk is on the right site of the canal, but you can choose also to walk on the left site. At Shangain aquaduct you can go back to the original route. That option should be mentioned because we think this site is nicer to walk.
The second day we choose to make a detour to the Chia aig waterfalls. This makes the route a few km longer, but is worth it. Also on this day we saw the first loch. Very impressive.
And we had so much luck. Also our thirth day is beautifull. No rain so far.
This day we end our walk at the begining (or end) of Loch Ness. What a good few, when the sun is going down.
Day number 4 starts with rain, for the first time. Despite the rain we choose for the High route. And see, early in the afternoon, the sun was shining again. Because of this beautiful weather we had spectaculair fews. This route ends in the very nice place Invermoriston.
The fifth day we had no rain, but much clouds. Still we choose to take the High route from here. Also a good choice (for us). This was a long walk, but also very nice.
We loved the heather, in this time of year so beautiful. Can get enough of this.
The last part of the route, we split the route in two days. The sixth day a taxi brought us to Woodend and from there we walked back to Drumnadrochit. Not a long walk, so we had time to visit the Urquhart castle in Drumnadrochit. On this route we saw the pole for the highest point of the GGW. We think that this is not right, because of the new High routes they make. The highest point of the GGW is on the High route between Invermoriston and Drumnadrochit.
The last part, the seventh day we walked from Woodend till Inverness.
We walked a total of 134 km, a bit longer, but that was our own choice.
It was a very nice walk, it was worth it.
