As this was a long walk on a short day,I made an early start, arriving at Flint just as it was starting to get light.I parked on the road near Flint Dock, which is in an industrial estate behind the railway station.

There are several small harbours along this bit of coast, but the shallow tidal estuary isn't very good for shipping.

At Llanerch-y-mor an old ship, the Duke of Lancaster, has been beached for many years.

There's a larger port at Mostyn. Here the path goes inland, following the main road and then through the village of Ffynnongroyw, before heading back to the coast at Point of Ayr.

There used to be a coal mine here. Now there's a gas terminal and a nature reserve, and a small seaside resort at Talacre.

This is where the Dee estuary opens out into the Irish Sea.From here, at low tide you could probably walk along the beach all the way to Prestatyn, but the main Coast Path goes through the dunes, with only occasional glimpses of the sea.
