Hello

I am planning to walk the northern section of West Highland way in the fall of 2020 (and then head on to Skye to do some more walking there)

What do you think about going in mid october versus late september?
I am not a fast walker, so wondering if the shorter days will be an issue, although the longest day at this point will just be a 15 mile stretch from kinlochleven to fort william.
what about rain wind temperature?
not much difference?
what about hiking in skye?
do the ferries close down in october, or not untl november?

thanks for your help

Mid October should be fine: a slightly higher chance of cold or windy weather but fewer midges and better Autumn colours. It is still light to at least 6.30pm before daylight savings time ends on the 27th.

The Kylerhea ferry service ends sometime in October, the Armadale ferry changes to winter timetable on the 21st. The bridge is always there!

Hiking on Skye will still be fine, as long as you aren’t considering the more technical parts of the Cuillin ridge.
