Read other users walk reports for the long distance trails - and add your own.

NB. This board is for reports on multi-day long distance routes - reports on simply long walks should be added to the standard boards.
Warning Please note that hillwalking when there is snow lying requires an ice-axe, crampons and the knowledge, experience and skill to use them correctly. Summer routes may not be viable or appropriate in winter. See winter information on our skills and safety pages for more information.

Hi,

Next year I retire and have been thinking what I could do to mark the occasion.

I love walking and live in the Lake District, and my holidays are always walking holidays with my dog. I have done loads of long distance walks in my years, the first being the Pennine Way in my twenties (no dog). So I decided it would be lovely to do it again and this time for charity, as I shall be 66 and my dog will nearly be 11 years old, so it would be a challenge, hence another reason I want to do it for charity.

Bearing in mind the age of my dog (and my replacement knee!), I would take my time, perhaps averaging between 10-12 miles a day, so taking a huge 4 weeks to walk the length, a very costly way, but it would be worth it. I was therefore wondering if any one has ever done the PW with an older dog. She is a Border Collie/GSD cross, about the size of an average Collie, and very fit. We are up in the fells at least twice a week.

I would love to hear from anyone who can share their experience or thoughts with me.

Thank you.

Janice

It may be better to post to the general discussion forum. There you will find some better info etc
