Hi, anyone on Ben Alder over the next few weeks please look out for my Etrex 10 (minus the back). I lost it today when walking in dreadful mist, rain and low cloud. It was there one minute and gone the next ! Much to my dismay.
And the lesson learned was don't keep it around your neck on a lanyard as the back seems to have twisted and fallen away, leaving me with the lanyard and the back of the unit......and a shocked expression on my face.
Thank goodness I remembered how to use my map and compass, otherwise I might still be wandering about up there.
But seriously, I learned today how much I have come to rely on a GPS unit and need to combine it more with my map and compass skills to stay safe. The irony was that I had spare batteries but no unit to put them into and losing it means that I have now to cycle the loooong route back in to complete the second Munro, Beinn Bheoil, on that circuit
Stay safe everyone.
