I see them quite often, well, one or two a year, but this is the first I've been close enough to have time to get the camera out. I'm afraid I probably chased it a little trying to get the latter shot. Once in the bushes ahead, it stopped and didn't appear phased, it just watched me for a moment or two before slithering slowly off.

Wow, superb snaps! I never saw one swimming but they like snacking on frogs so they must be used to water :wink:

Snakes are always too fast to photograph! I have the same problem with adders, they always slither away before my camera gets a chance...

Very nice. On dry land it would have slithered off sharpish into the undergrowth, so a great photo opp, as they say.

Thanks all, it was indeed the best view I've had of one....until yesterday when I got even closer to a smaller one. However, I didn't have the camera ready until it was a little further off, so the photos aren't as good.

Wow, great photos, I'm still waiting to see an adder. Only ever seen two grass snakes. One in Milton Keynes, wildlife capital of the South :lol: :lol:
