Great sighting

Great sighting

Lucky enough to a get about 10 minutes watching a white tailed eagle yesterday afternoon, which for a while was joined by and slightly harried by a peregrine

The birds were a long way off and against a grey sky so the shots are pretty much silhouettes and heavily cropped.

Excellent photos! I am always surprised by the bravery of these smaller birds which take on the giants of the sky. I've seen buzzards and ravens mobbing eagles, it seems to work for them, but I have heard of eagles getting fed up with it and exacting fatal revenge on thier tormentors.

Great pics. The second one puts me in mind of a jet fighter intercepting and shadowing a lumbering bomber, just in case they misbehave.

Thanks for the comments. They were the best I could manage and getting shot at all is better than nothing. I've been lucky to see a few white tailed eagles but it was good to see one with another bird.

It is sometimes difficult to gauge size of a bird at a distance but fortunately with WTEs it is easy.

Buzzards are big, golden eagle are very big, but white tailed eagles are huge. Although the lengths and wing spans of the golden and white tailed are not that different, its a bit like the difference between Peter Crouch and Geoff Capes.

Well done, I have seen a couple of WTE lately in the Cairngorms, let's hope they are left alone.

Sadly: fat chance! They might spook the grouse...
