Roe Deer

Roe Deer

Postby Tinto63 » Sun Jun 06, 2021 11:15 pm

Yesterday I was quietly enjoying a leisurely lunch in the Broughton Heights when this fine (young?) roe deer wandered up and was quite bold, coming within about 15m. It seemed unconcerned and continued to graze before wandering off.

Nice photos. Round here you are usually restricted to watching their bums pogoing into the disrance.

Looks like a youngster and youthfully curious. As they age the antlers increase in size, branch, develop heavily pearled pedicles, move apart and further down the skull. I'd say no more than two to three years.

I used to creep up on them and touch them. They don't half jump!
