Little Duckies

Little Duckies

Postby Border Yellerbelly » Tue Apr 10, 2012 1:07 am

Some recent arrivals on my local waterway. Took Antonia down to see them and spent 20mins snapping away. Thought I'd share a few shots. When we got down there the local Heron was there too and Antonia wouldn't believe me that he would be there eyeing up these little morsels.
Really gladdens the heart to see these little fellas though.
Shots all taken with my standard, and only, lens. 18-55mm. They show some of what can be achieved without tele lenses and also demonstrate some of the limitations too.

Lovely shots BY, if that lens is the canon 18-55 EF-S, its a cracking good lens...I'd still have mine if it would fit a 5D ...if it's something else it is clearly a good bit of kit to produce shots like these :D

Thanks Chris. The lens is the standard Nikon DX kit that came with our D3100.
The ducks see people all day every day so they aren't shy. I learned very quickly that if I moved at all then mum would herd them away so I just sat still and let them come to me. The second and fourth shots were taken by simply holding the camera almost at ground level and pointing in the general direction then cropping later. Seemed to work quite well. Took about 60 shots in total and just over half were pretty good.
