ex bird, ceased to be, shuffled off this mortal coil

ex bird, ceased to be, shuffled off this mortal coil

Not so much wildlife as wild death ~ we get unfortunate casualies on the migration routes ( currently off sub-arctic Norway). It is an ex bird, it has ceased to be, it has shuffled off this mortal coil and joined the choir invisible. Of course it may just be a Norwegian one, pinin' for the fjords...But what is it ? Me shipmates' guesses range from Dunlin to Woodcock. I reckoned too big for Snipe. Anyone?

I think it could be a snipe?

Are you sure it isn't just sleeping?

I'm sure Snipe are just tiny wee versions of that. Or am I thinking of something else? I'm fairly sure it wasn't just sleeping, I plucked a load of feathers for making trout flies, then lobbed it overboard.

I'd say it was a snipe too, caberfeidh  .

I think a woodcock is stockier, a dunlin has black legs, and greenshanks, bar-tailed godwits, and whimbrels also have darker legs.

I think it may be a Jack Snipe as the bill appears shorter than a snipe's.

Of course, Caberfeidh could have been practising his amputation techniques again!

But that's when they're alive, aint it? This one had exsanguinated all over the deck after smashing its noggin in on the bridge. Perhaps the colour drained out of its legs? Once the Chief Officer went out for a smoko and found a golden eagle perched on the bridge wing rail.

That may be because he flew into a large heavy ship at high speed.
