Its hard to see the shape of the tail.. Was it rounded or pointy? Also I cant see the feelers, so that makes it a little tricky too.. :?

It looks like Carabus glabratus - ground beetle, quite a common sighting in the grass :D
Here is one I captured in the Cairngorms some time ago:

They are feisty little creatures - I placed one on my hand once and it tried to bite me! Of course its jaws are not sharp enough to cut human skin but I still felt the pinch :lol:
