Reindeer on Sgor Gaoith

Reindeer on Sgor Gaoith

Descending Sgor Gaoith on 16/10/2007 we met with 3 Reindeer. They must have escaped from somewhere so I wonder if they actually count as "wildlife". I have photos & video but no idea how to upload them from my Google account. They seemed quite tame and allowed us to about 10 metres before wandering away. Anyone else seen these?

There is an introduced herd in the Cairngorm area, effectively semi-domesticated like sheep. See here; https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/news/the-cairngorm-reindeer/0011542/

Nice to see.

Here's a random reindeer photo (from Sweden not Cairngorm, but it looks a bit like Rothiemurchus!)

Here are some I met near Ryvoan; they like Tuc biscuits but get stroppy when you run out of biscuits! I read of a woman who was attacked by a bull reindeer in the Cairngoems, it gave her a very hard time of it until she escaped through a fence. When she complained to the police they told her it was a wild animal and therefor it was no-one's property and there was nothing to be done. I somehow think the situation would be different if the same police caught you bundling a dead one into the back of a van...

And more. I have a reindeer skin rug but it moults hairs all over the place.

A likely tale. You've been shaking out your shirt again after a full moon outing, have'nt you?

We have been lucky enough to see them quite often around the Cairngorm plateau but our closest encounter was on the Hills of Cromdale when we turned around to find this small herd in single file right behind us.
