Sea Eagle

Sea Eagle

Postby Caberfeidh » Thu Oct 04, 2018 1:36 pm

So there I was, on Caberfeidh Estate, when I heard a commotion from on high, and there was a sea--eagle being harassed by a gull, then by a buzzard. Truly the Eagle of Misfortune soars above my lodge...

First time I saw a sea eagle, I was out running on forestry tracks above Lochgilphead and some huge bird swooped across the track in front of me. Looked like the lovechild of an albatross and a golden eagle, only found out from colleagues the next day what it actually was!

Have seen sea eagles a couple of times since, but never managed to get photos like yours!

Thankee ~ if it decided to nick your sandwiches you couldn't do much about it could you? Bloody over-grown budgies...

Superb! Magical to be close to these things. I've seen a couple at a distance, and got a couple of rubbish long-distant shots, but never close enough to make out the detail.

They are massive. Before you see one, you think it might be hard to tell if its a sea eagle or a golden eagle, but there's no doubt at all when you see how huge the wings are.

As you say, I wouldn't fight one for its lunch.
