Big Flappy Thing

Big Flappy Thing

Postby Caberfeidh » Tue Oct 23, 2018 5:47 pm

I was manifesting myself in Glen Lyon the other day, when I saw this large bird flapping slowly across the glen. I think it is a buzzard but I am happy to be corrected. Glen Lyon is looking great in autumnal colours right now. As well as this bird I saw hares, herons, deer and was serenaded by the primordial bellowing of stags marking their territory for the rut.

Big Flappy Thing, probably a Buzzard.

Doesn't look vrry buzzardly to me, but it's a long way off. Big and flappy with those wing angles could be Red Kite.

Red Kite sounds more like it, it flew more like a kite than a buzzard. And I remember it had a big tail.

Usually they just soar, I live on a hill and they ride the thermals over my garden. When they do flap it's very lazy looking but effective. Here's a pic of one over my place this summer.

There was a certain amount of soaring going on prior to the flapping.
