Distant Bird ID Help - Eagle or Buzzard (poor pics)

Distant Bird ID Help - Eagle or Buzzard (poor pics)

Postby apjkerr » Sat Jun 29, 2019 8:26 am

Spotted in Knoydart last Sunday, apologies for the quality of the pictures, but this the best zoom my camera could manage whilst I hurried for a shot as it flew away.

I am aware of the ‘tourist eagle’ thing but having spotted lots of birds in the last week I could confidently say were Buzzards, I was unsure about this one, especially having seen many videos and threads similar to this one that could suggest either bird, and the fact it appeared to be fairly large. For what it’s worth, I don’t remember any ‘mewing’ or other sounds coming from the bird, and was struck by how stable it looked in the sky. Any ideas?

I’ve included one of the original shots to give an idea of the landscape.

Thanks.

I've never had a good view of an eagle, but this looks like a buzzard to me.

Buzzard, they aren't always noisy though it does help when they are.
