Brown Hare, Carrick Hills, Ayrshire. I nearly stood on it, but left pretending I hadn't seen it.

Nice pics. That will be a fairly well grown Leveret in its Form. Their mothers will leave them hunkered down returning to feed them around dawn and dusk. Almost impossible to see unless you come within a step of them. I came across a very young Red Deer calf similarly on Am Faochagach years ago, also nearly stepping on it. Have a pic somewhere if I can find it.

Pretty obvious really, but just in case anyone is tempted, don't touch, their mothers will detect your scent and may abandon them.

Au contraire, I have eaten jugged hare at the renowned Rules Restaurant in Covent Garden and very good it was too.

I'm just a tad squeamish about eating babies. :(

Indeed, I was bloodthirsty in my youth but these days I would much rather see them alive than in a thick gravy. Also you never know what eldritch torment may await if you mess with the sacred hare of myth and legend....https://www.transceltic.com/pan-celtic/importance-of-hare-celtic-belief-and-our-duty-protect-all-wildlife

That was many years ago, wouldn't be my choice now.

This fellow guards the entrance to my abode.
