Thanks for the comments. Its been a great "project" wandering locally. Though we are now allowed to drive wherever, I've chosen to limit myself to close to home, but do at least drive to different places now; the quieter ones.

Had a great conversation with a happy Roe Buck last week. He wasn't phased at all, and carried on chomping on bracken whilst I watched from about 20 yards away, looking up to check on me every now and then, sticking his tongue out at me, or with a big grin on his face!

Well, with lockdown in the middle of winter being somewhat less lovely, I thought I'd revisit some of the my wildlife photos taken since the end of the first lock down. Most were some time ago now, but I'm still getting out every day, just not seeing as much at this time of year!

Mallard duckling, June

Image

Red kite, June

Image

White crab spider munching on a ringlet butterfly, July

Image

Young roe deer, July

Image

Chalk Hill Blue, August

Image

Barn Owl, October

Image

Starlings, October

Image

Big momma. Common Toad, October

Image

Young grey heron, October. Let me stand very close, then...

Image

...off he went with dinner! Only went about 20 feet, and swallowed the poor roach. Whilst I was looking at the photos, I turned round, to find he'd come back and was about 6 feet behind me.

Image

Buzzard, November

Image

Gadwall, November

Image

A scene from Snow White, or Bambi or something, November

Image

Image

This is Rodrigo, one of the two male roe deer I see by the water meadows of the River Wey.

Now something I never knew about kingfishers until this year. They can hover.

Male kingfisher, November

Image

A more usual hoverer. Female Kestrel, December

Image

The same bird, a week later

Finally, for almost the first time in 12 years trying, a kingfisher let me drift right past him in the canoe.

Of course, he didn't hang around for long!

January is proving a little difficult, and the wildlife is keeping its distance, but there are already the first signs of spring. It can't come soon enough for me.

These photos are all great, but the gadwall one is especially stunning.

Great photos all. I have something much more prosaic. :D

I did come across some Llamas yesterday but each time I tried to get a photo they began to graze and looked just like black sheep, so I will have to try again.

Hah. I have similar photos of Alpacas somewhere, if I didn't delete them. Just distant fluffy things.

Also found quite a few jelly ears recently, they're fascinating fungi.

Correction. Mine were Alpacas not Llamas, should have known that. :(

Wandering along the footpath by the River Tay on the outskirts of my hometown, I spotted these.
Can someone with a far greater knowledge on these things, Confirm for me, they are indeed geese????

Pleasant walk in the cold sunshine today. Wildlife photo ops very sparse though. Did see a flock of Linnets feeding (fittingly) on leftover Linseed but they wouldn't cooperate for a photo. Likewise pairing-up Yellowhammers who kept themselves just too far away. Nice to see though.

Resorted to a shot from later on of some ewes not far off lambing and evidence of moles on an industrial scale.

Also saw dozens of these shells.

Helix pomatia

The so called "Roman" snail. Not that common and interestingly found not far from the site of an unexcavated Roman villa. Will have to go back and search for the live specimens. They are strictly protected, so it's look only and don't disturb.
