The RSPB guide makes it look like a blackcap should have a white face, but I'm not sure what else it might be.

Definitely a blackcap. They do have a pale throat and underparts, but the RSPB picture does over-emphasise this compared to photographs.

Agree with jmarkb. The other absolutely defining feature of the blackcap is its song (though having said that, it's quite similar to that of the garden warbler :roll: ).

It wasn't singing, just dotting about. It made me think of a wren with a black hat on!
