Newt in Glen Tilt

Newt in Glen Tilt

Hopefully interesting enough to warrant a post: certainly the first one I’ve seen in my 40 years. Living in a puddle in the track about a mile before the Falls Of Tarf, and still there when I returned past the next day. Guessing a Palmate newt, given the habitat and what I’ve read since..?

Nice, I love a newt, me. They are usually gone by the time I get my camera out though.

Me too. Will be clearing the ever recurring blanket weed from my small lily pond later and time will be spent disentangling the newts from it before it goes in the compost bin. The adults are fairly easy to spot, finding and saving the babies takes ages.

The one in the pic is most likely a palmate newt, they are happy in the shallow acidic waters of the Highlands. Mine are smooth newts.
